TED x UWO

So I finally got around to submitting my application for TEDxUWO last night.. and finished it minutes before the deadline. Typical.

For those of you who don`t know, TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design, is a non-profit critically acclaimed, award-winning platform featuring inspiring talks from the worlds leading thinkers and doers. It is a forum that allows progressive members of the global community to share and spread idea`s. Over the last 4 years alone, it has amassed over 400 million views worldwide. Impressive, if you ask me.

I have been an avid follower of TED ever since I heard about it a few years ago. It contains informative, innovative, and interesting lectures ranging from topics related to just about anything you would want to know about.

As you can imagine, I was quite excited to hear that an independently organized TEDxUWO event was coming to The University of Western Ontario on March 12th, 2011. Everyone interested in attending the event had to fill out a rigorous application form, such that the most suitable candidates could be selected to engage and participate in the discussions with the speakers, and fellow audience members. More information can be found on twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/tedxuwo), and facebook (http://www.facebook.com/TEDxUWO).

Some of the speakers confirmed for the TEDxUWO event include:

Ray Zahab - Ultra-marathon runner who went from pack-a-day smoker to a world record holder endurance athlete. He is the founder of the non-profit organization Impossible2possible, and the author of the book ``Running for my life``.

Denis Shackel - After being stranded alone following a tragic climbing accident, with temperatures below -30 degrees Celsius, he broke the night down into five-thousand five-second intervals, and relied on vision, intuition, and faith to keep himself alive throughout the night.

Dr. Adrian Owen - Formerly from Cambridge University, Dr. Owen is one of the worlds foremost neuroscientists, and is now a scientist at the Centre for Brain and Mind at UWO. His research is focused on understanding the mysteries of the human brain for social and clinical benefit.

Ian Keteku - The 2010 World Poetry Slam Champion has shared the stage with many of the worlds best hip-hip artists. His words spread his message of peace, action, and critical thought.

I have also attached a few of my MANY favorite TED lectures - so you can get a sense of the caliber of talks seen on TED:

Harvard Psychology, Dr. Dan Gilbert speaks about common beliefs and misconceptions about happiness

Neil Pasricha uses the power of blogging to spread a little optimism

The Barking Frog x 01.08.11

These are some pictures from Frogs on Saturday January 8th. While we were there, we happened to meet the owner of this really cool vintage consignment boutique Mesh Boutique, right across the street.
It's a really cool store, and we thought it would be a perfect location to hold a DreamNLive event in the future.. Stay tuned!!

Do it Alone

Buddy You Don't Even Know: Steve Aoki and Dj Divsa

BYDEK Group Inc. is a new booking, marketing, and events company with a clear vision: concentrating on country or province-wide offers which save you, the customer, money on special events. Still in the start-up phase, they have already managed to put together some exciting events, a few of which will be covered by the DreamNLive Team. More information on BYDEK can be found at their website (www.bydek.ca), and on facebook and twitter.

First up is Steve Aoki spinning at Pure Lounge in Gatineau, Quebec (Just across the river from Ottawa).

That EPIC night will be followed by one of my favorite up and coming DJ's: DJ Divsa playing at Tila Tequila, right in the heart of the downtown Ottawa.

For those of you that don't know, DJ Divsa is starting to gain national and international recognition as an incredibly talented and well versed DJ. Nominated for awards such as Mixtape of the Year and Toronto DJ of the Year, among others, his unique and captivating style has earned him regular appearances in some of the finest nightclubs in North America.

DreamNLive will be doing official event photography for both of these parties! We are very excited to be working with energetic and innovative event marketing companies like BYDEK. It is one of our goals to create a community of Canadian youth culture and give it an identity (which includes awesomeness, amongst other things).

David Versis

Diligent and focused, David Versis is a part of the new generation of hip-hop. His music is as versatile as the wide range of influences that have shaped him to the artist that he is today.

Influenced by a fusion of genres and artists, Versis is inspired by a legacy of greats from Biggie to Jimmy Hendrix, Outkast to the Beatles, and plans to one day achieve similar success.

David Versis has released a new mixtape titled 'Drafted', which can be downloaded from his website:

From one Mississauga-native to another, I wish David Versis the very best of luck and just so all of you know, we do plan on putting together a DreamNLive event so we can bring him out to London. Stay Tuned!!

The Show Goes On...

One of my favorite songs of 2010:

So its 2011! Crazy. Happy New Years everyone!!

Funny to think that 10 years ago I had just landed in Canada (Ottawa) for the first time, in the middle of a snow storm no less. Now that its not only a new year, but a new decade, we wish everyone and their families good health and happiness, and the energy and inspiration to pursue their dreams and to live their life.

We have been a little slugging on the blog recently. Two reasons for this. The first being that it was the holiday season, and we were busy chilling/relaxing (chillaxing etc.) and spending time with family. The second reason is that because of the incredible early success and thousands of views from all over the world, we have decided to expand to the next phase of the DreamNLive blog. We are having it re-designed to incorporate numerous different categories, and are recruiting a range of writers/bloggers. If YOU like to write about ANYTHING that you think other people would like to read about, send me an e-mail (hassaan.ahmed87@gmail.com), and we'll make it happen.

Lets make this year (and decade) count.
